It’s home to students, hipsters, a large LGBTQIA+ community, artisans, architects, designers, fashionistas, and generally a whole bunch of alternative-living advocates, so it’s little wonder Inner Sydney suburbs like Newtown, Glebe, Surry Hills, Darlinghurst and Chippendale are such bastions of cool. Hipper-than-hip bars, some of the city’s best restaurants and cafes, fabulous galleries, cutting-edge fashion, indie cinemas, renovated pubs serving mouth-wateringly good food, live music and theatre, boutique breweries, and makers’ markets all give the inner city its distinctly boho flavour.
Inner Sydney is made up of the trendy Inner West suburbs running along the Inner Harbour and Parramatta River – starting with Surry Hills and Chippendale – as well as those just past Central Station, former industrial areas that have been reborn as some of the city’s hippest.
