Taste of Australia with Hayden Quinn – Darling Square & Chinatown

Taste Darling Square & Chinatown with Hayden Quinn

Cook, author, presenter and MasterChef Australia contestant Hayden Quinn delves into Sydney’s incredible restaurants, rich culture and natural beauty for season four of Taste of Australia with Hayden Quinn – Sydney Edition. This week he wanders the eat streets of Darling Square, Chinatown and Haymarket.

The gardens have been here for 30 years, and it’s quite nice to have this oasis in the centre of the city,” says Danijela Jaric, senior horticulturist at the Chinese Garden of Friendship in Darling Harbour.

Hayden explores the Chinese Garden of Friendship and discovers a haven of tranquillity in the middle of Sydney. Designed in 1986, the serene landscape features tumbling waterfalls, exotic plants, and sculptures a peaceful pocket of Chinese culture.

Hayden meets co-founder Jonathan Hepner at Bucket Boys Bar within The Exchange building at Darling Square to try one of their cold craft beers from the Blue Mountains.

At the second venue of Marrickville booze bar Bucket Boys, Hayden snaps up one of the five seats available at the cosy bar, which has boutique beers and cocktails on tap as well as spirits and natural wines.

Hayden joins fellow MasterChef alumni Reynold Poernomo, who takes him to one of his favourite spots in Chinatown, the Emperor’s Garden Cream Puff window.

Next door to the Emperor’s Garden Restaurant, Reynold shows Hayden a must-eat Chinatown dessert, Emperor’s Puffs. Filled with molten custard, these sweet treats are so popular they generate long queues along Dixon Street.
