Taste of Australia with Hayden Quinn – Inner West

Taste the Inner West with Hayden Quinn

Cook, author, presenter and MasterChef Australia contestant Hayden Quinn delves into Sydney’s incredible restaurants, rich culture and natural beauty for season four of Taste of Australia with Hayden Quinn – Sydney Edition. This week he explores the Inner West with Flex Mami and does his own spin on sausages.

Hayden meets up with podcaster and author Flex Mami for a private class at CLAY Sydney, where they take a ball of clay and attempt to throw it into something functional.

Located in Marrickville, CLAY Sydney hosts a variety of classes at their studio, from hand-building to wheel-throwing, as well as a wine and clay class and also one for kids. Online classes are available, or you can order kits to make ceramic objects at home.

“Pop it in the hole at the top, and start grinding,” says Chrissy Flanagan from The Sausage Factory. “Total satisfaction,” says Hayden.

Next, Hayden and Flex try their hand at sausage making at The Sausage Factory in Dulwich Hill. They are taught by owner and sausage queen Chrissy, who makes all the sausages by hand on site and also brews her own beer.

Hayden heads to Sauce Brewing Co. and samples the Simples lager first with owner Mike Clarke. “Would this be a good beer for someone who’s trying it out for the first time?” asks Hayden. “It’s a great gateway beer," says Mike.

Mike is the owner of the independent microbrewery in Marrickville, where you can taste his hop-forward styles of beer. On offer is a couple of IPAs, a classic pale ale and a lager sitting alongside more experimental styles including a Peach Berliner Weisse and a Mimosa Gose.
