Whether you’re a rugby fan, diving enthusiast, avid sailor or expert surfer, you’ll find adventure activities and sports to suit all tastes in Sydney. Battle rapids on an Olympic white-water rafting course, kayak on Sydney Harbour or defy gravity at iFly indoor skydiving.
Sports fans will be thrilled with the action-packed sporting calendar, with exciting AFL matches, the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and exhilarating motorsports events. Join in the fun and take part in City2Surf in August or Blackmores Sydney Running Festival in September.
Wonderful ways to enjoy the incredible natural harbour include kayaking, jet boating or stand-up paddle boarding. You can hire sailboats and marvel at the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge from the sparkling blue water.
Hike one of the many walking trails in beautiful national parks, including Australia’s two oldest national parks – the Royal and Kur-ring-Gai Chase. There are also great cycling trails, such as 10B Cycling Trail in Dharawal National Park near Helensburgh.
Try horse riding in picturesque Centennial Parklands, or take lessons at Hawkesbury Valley Equestrian Centreor Otford Farm. Improve your golf swing at one of the city’s golf courses. Many have incredible coastal views, such as The Coast Golf Cluband The Bondi Golf and Diggers Club’s.
Children as young as seven can learn to surf with Let’s Go Surfing at Bondi Beach. There are also surf schools in Cronulla, Maroubra and Manly – and a bodyboarding academy in Cronulla. Experienced surfers can hire boards and hit the waves at the many great surfing beaches along the coast.
Head to Western Sydney for a range of adrenaline activities including white-water rafting at Penrith Whitewater Stadium, blasting skyward with Jetpack Adventures and wakeboarding at Cables Wake Park. Then try the faster rollercoaster zip line in the world at Treetop Adventure Park.
