Things To Look Forward To At Vivid Sydney 2019

Vivid Sydney will be celebrating its 11th anniversary in 2019, bringing Sydney to life in a celebration of mesmerising light, music, ideas and colour. There are many precincts to explore in the city where you can experience Vivid 2019 in all its glory, including Sydney Harbour, The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Kings Cross and many more.

Check out these awesome events, musical performances and artistic installations, as Sydney celebrates its prominent arts and culture scene.

 

Vivid Light Sydney

Vivid Sydney is known for its spellbinding Vivid Light installations, and this year they will be celebrating with over 60 magical light and colour shows all across the city. Don’t miss the Lighting of the Sails every night of the festival from 6:00 pm, as the iconic Sydney Opera House comes alive with stunning colour. This year’s theme is Austral Flora Ballet, a stunning visual tribute to Australia’s native flora. Be sure to head to Darling Harbour between 24 May and 15 June to experience another highlight in Robot Spaceland. Watch on as Ecobot, the 16m tall, futuristic robot structure strives to save Earth from impending doom by crushing old cars and extracting precious metals which will form the foundation for a new society. Or celebrate 30 years of animation from Pixar Studios with Pixar Animation Studios’ stunning light projection of characters from their beloved films like Toy Story.

For an illuminating family night out, head to the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney to enjoy the Firefly Field, the stimulating installation by Dutch artist Toer. See the garden paths light up with 500 flying light points. Light and colour will reflect and bounce imitating the shimmery fireflies as the audience participants run and walk around the gardens. Once you’ve made your way through the gardens, take a trip around Circular Quay and into The Rocks and explore the Vivid Light Walk for a magical evening.

Over the years Vivid Sydney has expanded its Vivid Music programme to include a wide range of emerging artists and massive stars from home and away, and to celebrate the 11th anniversary – this year’s lineup has something for everyone. In 2019, Vivid is getting gothic, with British goth band The Cure set to perform their album Disintegration at the Opera House.  An incredible selection of energised artists are set to take the stage and capture the hearts of Vivid-goers. Vivid 2019 welcomes the likes of FKA Twigs, Sharon Van Etten, Herbie Hancock, and Rufus Du Sol.

Keep the party going with The Soda Factory, dedicated to showcasing Sydney’s soul scene. Embrace their in-house curated events celebrating light and sound, and explore a stellar lineup of local artists.

Vivid Sydney’s Vivid Ideas programme has been known to spur innovation, design and ideas exchange in previous years, and 2019 is no different. For experience and events professionals, The World Business Forum Sydney 2019 is a must-see two-day event which includes speakers on topics such as strategy, new management, talent and innovation. Join the session which spans two days from 28 to 29 June to hear from CEOS, entrepreneurs, innovators, and thought leaders. As part of the New Horizons theme, Vivid Ideas has also curated a diverse range of speakers including film-maker Spike Lee on race and politics and journalist Elieen Ormsby on the dark web.

Head to the Museum of Contemporary Art this Vivid Sydney for the stimulating Conversation Starters program. This year’s program focuses on climate change and takes inspiration from the artwork of artist Janet Laurence.
