There are a number of great events taking place around Sydney over the Easter long weekend, from 18 to 21 April, 2014.

Fill your long weekend with excitement the whole family will enjoy at some of these Easter break highlights.

Sydney Family Show

Check out Australia’s biggest free-entry family show at Moore Park from 12 to 23 April.

Children will enjoy getting amongst the farmyard animals at the Animal Nursery. Meet the Easter Bunny and take part in an Easter egg hunt held twice daily at 11.30am and 1pm. Discover your sense of adventure as you ride the dodgem cars, explore the haunted house and take a ride in the flying tigers with the kids.

See dinosaurs come to life in the Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo show that runs three times daily (single ticket $12, family of four ticket $40). Free performances include the Ronald McDonald & Friends Friendship Adventure Show showing across the Easter long weekend, as well as the Get Wild Reptile Show and Get Wild Critter Show held at various times daily.


Head to Darling Harbour for this elaborate circus-themed festival running across the entire Easter long weekend.

Watch in awe at the boundary-pushing talent of award-winning acrobatics group Gravity & Other Myths, performing twice daily at the lavish Ukiyo tent. Enjoy old-school comedy with Gandini’s Medical Marvels’ fusion of slapstick comedy and aerial stunts, performing three times daily at the La Petite Grande tent. See what you look like stretched and squashed at the free Crazy Mirrors exhibition by the Convention Jetty. A wide range of harbourside street performance events are free to the public, while all ticketed performances feature free entry for children under 13.

Sydney Royal Easter Show

Australia’s largest annual event brings the best of the country to the city at Sydney Olympic Park between 10 and 23 April.

Sample Australia’s best produce at the Woolworths Fresh Food Dome, meet the animals at the Farmyard Nursery and push yourself to the limit at the Coca-Cola Carnival on any of the gravity-defying rides. With more than 400 retail outlets onsite, you’ll find great shopping opportunities. Check out the World Bazaar; R.M.Williams Stables; Home, Garden and Lifestyle Pavilion; and the Fashion & Style Pavilion for some of the best buys.

Cap off a great day watching the nightly show ‘Australiana In All Its Glory’, featuring live performances from singers, dancers, whipcrackers, lifesavers, rally drivers and MotoX riders. The production culminates with a spectacular 12 minute fireworks display – double in length from previous years.

Easter Family Fun Day at Trainworks

Trainworks at Thirlmere, one of the biggest train and rail attractions in the southern hemisphere, will host an Easter Family Fun Day on Easter Sunday, 20 April.

Kids can join their Easter Egg Hunt, make a bunny mask, paint an egg, and decorate a basket for storing their Easter eggs. Ride the Easter Express steam train to enjoy a special appearance from the Easter Bunny. Trains depart at 10.30am, 11.45am, 1.15pm and 2.30pm.

Cronulla Easter Show

Cronulla, in Sydney’s South, will host its annual Easter Show at the Cronulla Plaza across the Easter long weekend.

Learn how to juggle, walk on stilts and hula-hoop with Circusworks professionals at The Circus Playground. Children can ride a pony and feed the baby animals at the Animal Farm. Face painters, market stalls, showbags and plenty of carnival rides will create a weekend of fun for the whole family.

Greyhound Racing

The Golden Easter Egg Carnival is held at Wentworth Park in Glebe from 4 April to 19 April.

Cheer on the final 10 races on 19 April and watch the battle unfold for NSW greyhound racing’s most coveted trophy, the Macro Meats Golden Easter Egg. Gates open at 5.30pm with the first race beginning at 7.30pm. Entry is $15 for adults and children are admitted free. Dining packages are also available and include a three-course sit down meal, all beverages, race course entry and a souvenir race book (tickets $110).
