Reaching up towards the heavens, St. Mary’s Cathedral is an impressive building that can be seen from all around Sydney. A magnificent and exquisite cathedral, and the largest of its kind in Australia, St Mary’s has been an important religious site and historical monument in Sydney’s history dating back to 1821.
An easy walk from the Art Gallery of New South Wales , the Cathedral is filled with gorgeous stained glass windows, beautiful side altars, and a poignant memorial to fallen soldiers.
An insider Sydneysider tip for all those that want to get the best photo of the whole Cathedral is to go up the Sydney Tower Eye where you will get a great view of the whole church. On the ground, the best view is either in front of the cathedral by Cook Park or from the water fountain in Hyde Park.
