Festival First Night: A Photoblog

10 January 2011

“I love it – it’s like the one night Sydney looks at the rest of Australia and says ‘ no matter how good you are, there’s no way you can top this!’”

That was Craig, a guy I met at Sydney Festival First Night celebrations last night, who as you can tell was pretty taken by the night! While Craig said he’d fallen in love with Sydney since he moved here a few months back it was nights like Festival First Night that really emphasised why Sydney was so special.

If you missed it, Festival First Night saw a major part of the Sydney CBD closed off to traffic and filled with a celebration of music and entertainment t as part of the launch of the 2011 Sydney Festival.

It was an amazing night and below are some shots from around the various stages to show you what you missed – or maybe you’ll spot yourself in one?

There is some good news though: even if you haven’t made it to any events yet there’s still more of the 2011 Sydney Festival to go! There’s lots of guides online but if you have an iPhone make sure you check out the free festival app – it’s a great way to keep track of everything that’s on.

Did you manage to make it along, and if so did you have time? What is your ‘must see’ in the 2011 Sydney Festival? Let us know below!

Great shots! I was there and this really captures the feel of a very special day. The only thing that would improve these photos is if you got rid of the one of the juggler. Nobody needs to see photos of jugglers.
