I’m originally from Halifax, England but have been in Sydney since 2014 and love it here –it’s a photographer’s dream. I currently live in Manly and catch the Manly ferry to work so get world-class views at least twice a day, as well as the occasional dolphin!
My interest for photography came from my first job after graduating University. I was retouching a lot of other photographers work, and through doing this learnt great post-processing skills, a good workflow and basic rules of composition.
I only really began shooting for myself when I decided to leave England and travel the world in 2014. I’m lucky enough to have carried a camera across Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, The USA, Fiji, New Zealand and now Australia. I learnt a lot through doing this and have been hooked ever since.
I’m currently shooting with a Canon 6D and try to carry it with me wherever I go, because Sydney ticks nearly all the boxes for a photographer. There’s beaches, wildlife, people, stunning architecture, interesting skies, waves, thunderstorms and some absolutely unreal sunrises. To not bring my camera means I’m missing out on capturing something, and for me there’s no worse feeling than that.
One of my favourite things to do is get up and shoot the Manly surfers at sunrise, having them catch waves in front of a huge, rising sun is a pretty amazing sight and is well worth the 5:30am wake up.
I’m currently working for a Social Media Agency in the city, and my role involves a lot of product photography, so between work and play I’m almost always taking pictures – which is fine by me.
