I live 15, 020 kilometers from Sydney. That’s a total of 21 hours of flying from my home in Florida to LAX in California, and then hopping over the Pacific to arrive in the stunning, busy city of Sydney. My friends Heather, Hillary, and I made this long trip this past March, and wow, was it worth it. We are all in our mid-twenties, making average wages, but knew we wanted to invest our money in seeing the world. People thought we were a little crazy to go across the world at our age just for fun, but the three of us knew that this would be the adventure of a lifetime, and that we would never look back and regret the trip. We all agree that one of the best ways to invest your time and money is through travel.
We filled our days in Sydney with seeing as many beautiful sites as possible, drinking lots of flat whites, and meeting some of the friendliest people we’ve ever met. We stayed in an AirBnb in Potts Point because we wanted to experience a real Sydney neighborhood, and took public transport everywhere. We immersed ourselves in delicious food recommended by locals, climbed to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and even went to a concert at the Oxford Art Factory with new friends. Needless to say, Sydney is one of our new favourite cities.
I grew up in Orlando, Florida, and attended college at Furman University. I spent a semester abroad in Florence, Italy, and then after graduation, I moved straight to Charleston, South Carolina where I fell in love with photography. In Charleston, I developed and refined my photography skills working alongside an extremely talented wedding photographer. I learned quickly by shooting over fifty weddings, and eventually decided my niche would be portrait photography. I moved back to my hometown two years ago to develop my own full-time business (Lucy MacLeish Photography) as a portrait photographer.
For as long as I can remember, my mom instilled in me a love for travel, and challenged me to see everything there was to see. She taught me to always be adventuring. I will continue to work hard in my photography business so that I can keep travelling the world and experiencing all of the beauty that surrounds me. I hope you enjoy some of the beauty I tried to capture through my lens during our time in Sydney.
