A tipple for every taste

29 July 2011

So you’ve hit your local one too many times and it’s time to try something new. But where to start? With beergardens, holes in the wall, licensed lounges and gourmet pubs all vying for your attention on any given weekend we really are spoilt for choice in Sydney. While I promise to bring you the best of the best (all in good time …) let’s kick off the inspiration with some of the best cocktail bars, wine bars and beer cafes that Sydney has to offer.

Cocktail Bars in Sydney

Cocktails in Sydney Jimmy Liks in Potts Point – the closest I’ll ever get to having a cocktail named after me

Blu Horizon in the Shangri-La’s stunning bar with million dollar views

Madame Fling Flong in Newtown offers a seemingly never-ending cocktail  menu

Something different:
Mezzaluna Ristorante Italiano in Potts Point gives you the opportunity to shake your cocktail maker and learn from the best in their cocktail classes.

Wine Bars in Sydney

Wine Bar SydneyVini in Surry Hills for an all Italian wine selection

GPO Cheese & Wine in Martin Place for to die for cheese boards

Delicado in McMahon’s Point for a fiery Spanish twist

Something different:
Wine Odyssey in the Rocks gives you the option to sample a taste (25ml), a half glass (75ml) or a glass (150ml) of any one of the 200 Australian wines on offer.

Beer Cafes

Drinks in Sydney Red Oak in the CBD for boutique beer and atmosphere

Epoque in Cammeray for a local flavour to an international brand

The Local Taphouse in Darlinghurst for more than just a beer cafe

Something different:
4 Pines in Manly is a micro brewery that just immerses you in their passion.

Definitely the two cocktail bars for me are… The bar at the back of Lotus Restaurant on Challis Ave, Potts Point and
    The Victoria Rooms in Darlinghurst

Both of these have extensive cocktail lists and their bar talent can walk you through a few until you discover your new favourite…

Blu Horizon does have fantastic views – definitely a must even if you’re only in Sydney for a few days.

I used to work in a backpacker bar called Scubar on the corner of Pitt Str and Rawson. Pretty messy but loads of fun.

Cafe Sydney is also a must for the view!
