My name is Matt Findlay and I’m the creative behind @Mattfinphotography. I’m a Sydney based photographer with a passion for all things photography, particularly landscapes, seascapes and cityscapes.
This journey really all started about 5 months ago as I walked along the beautiful Hermitage Foreshore in Vaucluse, where I witnessed the most incredible sunset I have ever seen in my life. The colours made the city into the most incredible silhouette, and the pictures I captured from my phone had me thinking “imagine if I had a good camera!” The very next day I bought my first DSLR camera and, to be honest, I haven’t put it down since.
I’m a self-taught photographer and also work in full time construction. I’ve always loved the outdoors, and never needed an excuse to get out and explore what Sydney has to offer.
I find inspiration everywhere from the beautiful beaches and rock pools of the Northern and Eastern suburbs, to the architecture of the city, and the place you’ll find me most, Sydney Harbour. There are endless photography opportunities as each day is different and brings a new challenge to landscape photography. That’s why I love it.
One final thing; if you ever get the chance, I strongly recommend watching a sunrise from Hickson Road Reserve. Sit back, relax, and enjoy as the sun rises from behind the Sydney Opera House. It’s really something special to live in such a busy city and watch time sit still for just that brief moment.
