For 23 nights, from the 27th of May until the 18th of June, Sydney city is an eclectic blend of mesmerising colours and lights as Vivid Sydney brings the night to life.
Vivid Sydney is the world’s largest festival of Light, Music and Ideas, transforming the city with grand scale, awe-inspiring installations. This year, Vivid Sydney has expanded to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and Taronga Zoo as well as welcoming back Chatswood and Central Park with many new installations to see.
The Vivid Light Walk begins at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney, which is installed with 3D mapped projections transforming the gardens into an otherworldly art gallery. Continue towards Circular Quay and along Barangaroo in a walk that boasts some of the city’s most stunning landmarks, including views of the Sydney Opera House sails, lit with beautifully contrasted colours, as well as in The Rocks, the Museum of Contemporary Art’s glittering nighttime transformation.
Along with the bright lights and colours, Vivid Sydney brings with it a world of cutting-edge, experimental music. This year features the Australian premiere of Anohni’s prismatic multimedia show, indie synth-pop band New Order, and Esperanza Spalding with her Australian debut some 10 years into her career.
Vivid Sydney aims to promote a rich, and diverse flow of ideas, with some 150 events planned for the exchange of creativity. 2016’s Vivid Ideas features the ‘Game Changer’ talk series which will take place in Sydney’s Town Hall. Visionaries such as House of Cards screenwriter Beau Willimon, legendary filmmaker Spike Jonze, Orange is the New Black writer and creator Jenji Kohan, and one of Australia’s most influential new creatives, Margaret Zhang, will all make appearances.
