Vivid Sydney 23 May – 9 June
Vivid Sydney is a unique annual event of light, music and ideas which turns Sydney into an outdoor gallery of incredible lighting sculptures. Sydney sparkles, shimmers and shines as the sails of the Sydney Opera House are splashed with colour and the Harbour foreshore comes alive with 3D-mapped projections for the sixth year of this winter festival. Explore the Vivid Light Walk with more than 50 new light installations, be inspired by the Vivid Ideas program of talks and workshops, and unwind with the line-up of phenomenal artists performing for Vivid Music.
19th Biennale of Sydney 21 March – 9 June
Held every two years, Australia’s largest contemporary visual arts festival comes to Sydney. Since its inception in 1973, the Biennale of Sydney has provided an international platform for innovative contemporary art, showcasing the work of nearly 1600 artists from all corners of the globe. The event is spread across five venues, including the scenic Cockatoo Island, and features a program of artist talks, forums, guided tours, and family days. The festival draws to a close over the June long weekend.
Sydney Film Festival 4 – 15 June
The Sydney Film Festival is one of the world’s longest running film festivals, and is a major event on the Sydney cultural calendar. The 12 day festival screens the best in features films, documentaries, short films and animation from across Australia and around the world. Now in its 61st year, the festival also features a packed program of exclusive talks with filmmakers and other industry experts.

A long weekend gives you the perfect chance to catch up on the numerous plays currently being performed in Sydney. The much-loved Australian film that inspired the world to dance has now come to life on stage as Strictly Ballroom The Musical. It features the original creative team behind the 1992 film including director and co-writer Baz Luhrmann.
