Sydney’s sizzling summer season of sport continues with the Apia International Tennis tournament heating up the city from January 5 – 11, 2014.
Held at Sydney Olympic Park, some of the biggest stars in tennis will be gracing the courts this season to hold titles or win them.
Look out for big names such as Agnieszka Radwanska, who is leading the women’s field, including six of the top 10 women. This includes world number six Petra Kvitova, number seven Sara Errani, and many more well-known names such as Caroline Wozniacki and Jelena Jankovic.
Meanwhile Juan Martin del Potro, currently ranked world number five, is the top seed in the tournament for the men’s group, which holds five of the top 25 contenders.
Add to these groups some of the brightest rising stars in the field at the moment, such as Simona Halep, Sloane Stephens and Eugenie Bouchard and you have one of the most exciting draws in the sport.
January 6 is a particularly good day to head along with the young ones, as Kids Tennis Day allows under-16s in for free with an accompanying paying adult. From 9am there will be a Tennis Hour of Power, which is followed by an hour at the Ken Rosewall Arena where the kids will get a chance to meet some of the tennis stars and even their favourite Nickelodeon characters.
There are sure to be breath-taking serves, tense rallies and the occasional upset, so be sure to get yourself a seat before they all sell out. This is a great way to keep the festive spirit going as we ease into the New Year – just don’t forget your sunscreen!
