Overview
Claret Club sits on bustling Stanley Street, in the heart of Darlinghurst, bringing a polished European sensibility to a characterful two-storey terrace. Owned and run by two sommeliers, Claret Club brings together warm hospitality, an extensive wine list, and the talented cooking of Head Chef Andy Buchanan (ex-Dinner by Heston and Quay).
Two distinct moods live under one roof: an intimate dining room upstairs for lingering over dinner, and a lively wine bar below where walk-ins, good conversation and counter-side plates set the scene.
Upstairs in the Restaurant, the tone is classic and seasonal, with an à la carte menu that suits a thoughtful three to four course affair. The kitchen leans into classical European cuisine: house-made baguettes served simply with freshly churned butter; grilled scallops spiked with 'nduja; pan-seared blue eye cod with confit fennel and beurre blanc; and crown roast duck breast brightened by red cabbage and pickled plum.
Downstairs, the mood loosens. Walk-ins find a hum of conversation, good drinks, and generous plates built for sharing. Small bites include pig's head croquettes with salsa verde and house-made charcuterie, complemented by handmade pastas and seasonal dishes made to be shared over another bottle.
Reservations are accepted in the Restaurant upstairs, and walk ins are welcomed in the Wine Bar downstairs.
