La Traviata, Sydney Opera House 3 July – 22 July

Spend an evening under the iconic sails of the Sydney Opera House with Opera Australia’s latest production, La Traviata. Featuring detailed costumes, lavish party scenes and the combined talents of an ensemble of Australian performers, the production is set to bring Verdi’s opera classic to life in the harbour city this July.

Archibald Prize Exhibition, Art Gallery of NSW 18 July – 27 September

One of the most prestigious and well-known prizes in the Australian art calendar, the Archibald Prize Exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW will feature some of the best entries of this year’s edition of the annual portraiture competition. Over the years, the award has seen a wide array of politicians, celebrities, athletes and artists immortalised in paint, watercolor and other creative mediums.

Helpmann Awards, Capitol Theatre 27 July

Hosted by Todd McKenney, the 15th annual Helpmann Awards at the Capitol Theatre are set to celebrate the achievements of individuals and groups from across Australia’s diverse live performance sectors. Helping to promote the country’s live performance industry, the awards see nominees from a variety of disciplines such as live theatre, contemporary music and comedy.

Matilda the Musical, Sydney Lyric Theatre 28 July – 8 November

See Roald Dahl’s classic tale brought to life when the Australian incarnation of Matilda the Musical hits the stage of the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Having enjoyed success on both Broadway and London’s West End, the production, featuring original music by comedian Tim Minchin, is set to delight audiences during its three month run.

2015 Netball World Cup, Allphones Arena 7 August – 16 August

Watch on as the world’s top 16 netball nations gather at Sydney Olympic Park to play for the 2015 Netball World Cup’s championship title. Held over 10 days, the competition sees teams from Australia, the United Kingdom, the Caribbean and beyond go head-to-head in a number of fast-paced matches.

Bledisloe Cup, ANZ Stadium 6 August – 8 August

From racecourses and golf courses to Sydney’s spectacular harbour and shopping precincts, the Bledisloe Cup Festival will take over the harbour city, culminating in the ultimate trans-Tasman battle between arch rivals the Qantas Wallabies and the New Zealand All Blacks. Head out west to Sydney Olympic Park and see the first round of this years Trans-Tasman competition played out at ANZ Stadium. Revel in the stadium’s electric atmosphere as the Wallabies try reclaim the competition’s iconic trophy and break the Silver Ferns’ 12 year winning streak.

V8 Supercars Sydney Motorsport Park SuperSprint, Sydney Motorsport Park 21 August – 23 August

Enjoy a high octane weekend at the V8 Supercars Sydney Motorsport Park SuperSprint. Kicking off on August 21st, the three day event features two 60km races, a 200km race and a solid lineup of support categories. Round nine of the 2015 Championship, the weekend will see stiff competition between teams and drivers.

NAIDOC Week in Sydney 6 July – 12 July

Experience Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures firsthand during Sydney’s annual celebrations for NAIDOC Week.  Find a great range of events across Sydney celebrating Australia’s first people, their culture and the importance of keeping their traditions alive today. Some of the all-age events across the week include Corroboree Kids program at the Australian Museum and Blak Market festival, including stalls, workshops and song and dance.
