Fashion and Shopping in Sydney

17 December 2013

Call it what you will – retail therapy, updating the wardrobe or catching up with friends while swooning over beautiful shoes, dresses and accessories – shopping in Sydney is a must for any fashionista.

Shopping in the centre of the city

Sydney is known for its diverse range of quality shops – and the city centre is at the heart of it all. It has world-class shopping centres and boutique street stores, so you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Pitt Street Mall is home to Westfield Sydney, where you can find over 300 luxury fashion stores from high-end designers and brand names.

Stop by the beautiful and historic Queen Victoria Building (known as the QVB) to see a collection of Sydney’s best boutique fashion stores full of clothes, accessories and jewellery.

Shopping outside the CBD

There are many wonderful shopping areas just outside the CBD.

Paddington shopping is an ideal example of a trendy place to see funky designer stores oozing with the same cool style as the suburb itself. There’s plenty of luxury labels and a good mix of home-made crafts as well.

Check out shopping in Surry Hills. The area is known for vintage chic fashions and retro styles – as well as plenty of cafes and bars along the way to stop for a quick rest.

Mosman is packed full of designer boutiques and fun antique shops where you can shop all day and also enjoy the great cafes.

Sydney shopping at the markets

Sydney has a thriving market culture, with local fruit and veggie markets during the weekends.

The Glebe markets are a good place to start, where you can pick up fun pieces of jewellery, accessories, souvenirs and pieces of art. With Sydney’s famous sunshine and the great atmosphere, this is a fantastic way to spend a morning in the city.

The Paddington markets are also renowned for their great variety and atmosphere, showcasing an array of exciting and interesting products. These markets have several decades of history and purchasing from the stalls helps to support the Eddie Dixon Centre, a charity for Sydney’s homeless that is funded by the Paddington markets.
