The eight day regatta runs until 30 March and showcases the best in Australian and International rowing and para-rowing.
Key regatta events include the Australian Open Rowing Championships, the King’s and Queen’s Cups Interstate Regatta and the Australian Open Schools Rowing Championships. The first round of the World Rowing Cup will also be held in conjunction with the regatta from 28 – 30 March. This will make it Australia’s largest rowing competition and showcase the sport from school level through to elite World Cup level.
Leading athletes will take to the water to battle it out for the most prestigious titles in the country. Among them are Australia’s very own world champions including 2013 AIS athlete of the year and World Rowing female rower of the year, Kim Crow; 2012 London Olympic Games silver medallists Josh Dunkley-Smith and Will Lockwood; and 2013 Para-Rowing World Champion and 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games silver medallist, Kathryn Rossm.
Close to 200 competitors from 21 countries will compete in the first round of the World Rowing Cup. Of the countries competing, Australia will enter the biggest team for the event, followed by a large contingent from New Zealand, China and The Netherlands. The regatta is also attracting crews from other top rowing nations including, Canada, USA, Italy, Germany, Denmark and Lithuania.
