21 September 2012
Two of the best things I liked about the movie version of Legally Blonde were Reese Witherspoon and that cute little chihuahua. Well, the good news is that when Legally Blonde The Musical kicks off here in Sydney from 21 September, Elle and Bruiser are going to come back to life. Lucy Durack is the blonde lover of everything pink and glitzy and Bruiser is perfectly played by two new dog stars, Sparrow and Quincy.
If you don’t know the story… as a ravishing Miss Hawaiian Tropic, sorority president, and calendar girl, Elle Woods is a big hit on the campus of her Los Angeles college. She’s also got the perfect boyfriend in Warner Huntington III, a wealthy East Coast blue blood. Fearing that his snooty friends and family will never accept the bubble-headed Elle, Warner dumps her before heading off to graduate law school at Harvard University. Determined to win back her man, Elle enrols too, but she quickly becomes an object of scorn and ridicule. Despite her penchant for malls, makeup, and tanning, Elle is no dummy and is soon showing elite Ivy League snobs a thing or two about class, self-confidence, and courtroom victory.
The Sydney show’s got a great cast with Lucy Durack as Elle, Rob Mills as Warner, Erika Heynatz (Australia’s Next Top Model) as Brooke Wyndham and Cameron Daddo as Professor Callahan. I’ve been following Lucy via her blog to find out what’s hot at rehearsals – check out the daily, one-hour skipping session for the whole cast, just for starters.
