Officer and a Gentleman

Have you been to see the world premiere of An Officer and a Gentleman – The Musical at The Star yet? We’ve been hearing a lot of good hype and reviews about this on-stage adaptation of the Academy Award-winning 1982 movie. If you’ve been, what did you think?

One of the facts that you may not know about this production is that it has been adapted for the stage by original screenwriter Douglas Day Stewart and co-writer Sharleen Cooper Cohen. To top it off, the musical is directed by Simon Phillips who also directed Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Love Never Dies…both amazing musicals!

This musical tells the story of a young Naval recruit, Zack Mayo, who falls in love with a spirited young woman, Paula Pokrifki. They have to overcome their upbringing and personal obstacles to achieve their dreams. All the action on stage is set to a sizzling rock-pop score with memorable solos and more than one power ballad including the Academy Award winning song “Up Where We Belong”.
