Overview
Gursha Ethiopian is an acclaimed restaurant – a fact confirmed by the many positive press clippings adorning its walls. This award-winning Blacktown eatery has appeared in food guides and even been name-checked in NSW Parliament. Since 2017, Yibeltal Tsegaw and Rahel Woldearegay have gained a loyal following for their family-run restaurant, thanks to the spongey injera bread that acts as an edible plate for the colourful stews on their menu – such as shiro wot (chickpeas with spices and tomato), gomen (spinach spiced with green chilli) and yedoro wot (chicken in red pepper sauce).
The best way to end your meal is with a traditional coffee experience. The drink is poured from a visually striking jebena (pot) and ceremonially presented with a tray of smoky incense and pan-roasted popcorn. It's a good reminder that coffee originated in Ethiopia and – like the restaurant's well-decorated walls and extensive menu – it also celebrates the country's rich culture.
