NAIDOC Week event: Rouse Hill House

Event dates to be confirmed: July 2019

Join their family-friendly celebration of NAIDOC Week and Aboriginal culture at Rouse Hill House and Farm on Darug country, at this special event held in partnership with Muru Mittigar Aboriginal Cultural and Education Centre.

Start of the day with a Welcome to Country by Leanne Watson and Rhiannon Wright and a Smoking Ceremony by Nulungu Dreaming. Then help raise the Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian flags to open the event.

Enjoy performances by award-winning poet, singer and dancer Gumaroy Newman, try your hand at the ancient art of boomerang throwing and paint one to take home, and participate in one of the popular Darug language workshops held in the unique setting of the 1888 Rouse Hill school house.

Meet native animals with Get Wild, step inside the historic homestead on one of the house tours, plus enjoy a barbecue cook-up by Mad Mob and tea and coffee from Darcy Street Project.

They acknowledge the First Nations Peoples, the Darug peoples, the traditional custodians of the land, and pay respect to the Elders, past and present.
