Writers in Conversation Author Linda Jaivin and Artist Guo Jian

Overview
The Institute for Australian and Asian Arts and Culture at Western Sydney University is partnering with Rochfort Gallery to present a conversation with author Linda Jaivin, artist Guo Jian and Professor Jing Han on Jaivin's new book Bombard the Headquarters! The Cultural Revolution in China, held at Rochfort Gallery in North Sydney.
Linda Jaivin is the author of thirteen books, including seven novels, and a literary translator from Chinese specialising in film subtitling. Her The Shortest History of China was named No. 1 China book of 2021 by fivebooks.com and has been translated into multiple languages. She lived for nine years in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China, and now resides in Sydney.
Her latest book published in April in the UK and June in Australia, offers a vivid account of China's Cultural Revolution. In 1966, Mao's slogan "Bombard the Headquarters!" triggered a political campaign that caused millions of deaths and left a lasting impact on Chinese society. Jaivin explores its ideological roots, major figures, and enduring consequences.
Guo Jian is a Chinese Australian artist whose practice is shaped by his experience growing up during the Cultural Revolution. His solo exhibition Nothing About Erotic But Playboy, curated by John McDonald, is currently on view at Rochfort Gallery.
The event will be chaired by Professor Jing Han, Director of IAC and expert in intercultural communication and translation.
