His face will certainly be familiar to many, as it smiles at us from the $50 note. But David Unaipon's extraordinary life deserves to be remembered in full.

David Unaipon was a preacher, an inventor, and an author, with his multifaceted life helping to break many harmful stereotypes of Aboriginal people.

Karen Smith of the Aboriginal Heritage Office details Unaipon's life story and explains why it is still relevant today.

Karen has been the Education Officer at the Aboriginal Heritage Office since 2011 and has shared her knowledge and experience of the local Aboriginal history and culture with thousands of local residents, students and schools. She leads guided walks and gives presentations throughout the partner Councils in northern Sydney.

Karen is from the Buruberongal clan of the Hawkesbury (Derrubin) area and her family has been living in the Manly area for many years.
