Ears to the Ground: Hinterlandt

Thursday 06 June 2019

Hinterlandt is a Sydney-based ensemble that has situated itself comfortably between the chairs of classical chamber music and indie-pop sensibilities. The group performs exclusively original music composed by German-born Jochen Gutsch. His writing style is diverse, open and progressive, with a narrative and engaging quality.

Hinterlandt has undergone many incarnations and has performed internationally, including concerts in London, Berlin, Bangkok, Melbourne, Hamburg, Jakarta, Helsinki, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Rome, Amsterdam, Brisbane, Lisbon, and of course Sydney. In addition, 12 studio albums were released on independent labels.

For the evening at City Recital Hall, Hinterlandt will play two sets: the first will be their Ode to Doubt album in full, the second will be their most recent Sollbruchstelle EP in full. For the first set, the mainly instrumental quartet will be joined by classically-trained singer Nicole Smede on vocals.

This concert is held in the City Recital Hall ground level foyer and bar. Seating is arranged in a cocktail/lounge style and is general admission. The bar is open to ticket holders from 6.30pm.
