Jake Smyth and Kenny Graham opened their first restaurant together in April 2013 with Mary’s on a small back street of Newtown. With the red light hanging out front, the lines formed and have barely moved since. Short menu, loud music and plenty of booze is the recipe from which the Mary’s juggernaut continues to grow with the restaurant now turning up to 10,000 burgers per week.
The short menu is styled on American fast food, three fatty and delicious burgers and fried chicken. The wine list features the best of Australian and New Zealand wine producers, local beers such as Young Henrys and an ever-growing cocktail list.
