Salon Flamenco

Friday 26 April 2019

An intimate salon for lovers of Flamenco. Adventurous, daring, new solo works connecting with the pulse of what’s piping-hot in Europe. The artists share a philosophy of practice that has not been articulated anywhere in Australia. Stay for an artist’s talk and vintage film exclusive to this inaugural event.

Annalouise Paul (Sydney) trained in flamenco and contemporary dance at Laban Centre, she creates choreographic works that explore identity and transformation through the intersections of traditional and contemporary forms. Maree Laffan (Perth) trained in modern dance and photography, her passion is to integrate art forms and broaden her artistic vocabulary.

Tomas Arroquero (Melbourne) is interested in the ongoing, lived and practical process of renegotiating flamenco's defining characteristics. Lisa Maris McDonell (Wollongong) has a multi-faceted practice which includes performance, choreography, video, sound, Flamenco, and therapeutic arts.

The Flying Nun is a showcase of the outcomes from Performing Arts residencies with Brand X at the East Sydney Community and Arts Centre. By its very nature, they celebrate the fringe, alternative and contemporary counter-culture. Come and be the first audience to witness new work by local Artists fresh out of the rehearsal room.
