Delicious fresh produce in Sydney

Bountiful fresh produce is a scrumptious delight of Sydney, where you’ll find farmers markets in neighbourhoods and orchards and farm stays in the beautiful hinterland. You can even enjoy a farm-to-plate experience at former bowling greens turned into a farm only 4km from Sydney Town Hall.

Visiting a farmers market is a delicious start to the day in the harbour city. Carriageworks Farmers Market is held every Saturday morning in the heart of Redfern, inner Sydney. The all-weather market is a short walk from Redfern Station, which is six minutes by train from Town Hall Station.

EQ Village Markets is held every Wednesday and Saturday in Moore Park, home to the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Fox movie studios, and the Entertainment Quarter, where there are plenty of fun things to do for the kids. To get to Moore Park, you can take a bus from near Museum Station.

Other popular markets include the Pyrmont Growers Market and the Northside Produce Market. The premier event that brings farmers from across NSW to the city is the annual Sydney Royal Easter Show, a two-week festival of all things rural, including seasonal produce, at Sydney Olympic Park.

Near the city centre is Camperdown Commons, a working farm where lawn bowls were once played. Taste the produce on-site in Acre, opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the hinterland are Sydney’s rural treasures – verdant farmlands, orchards, olive groves and charming farm stays.

The self-drive Hawkesbury Farm Gate Trail is a delightful way to experience the rural tranquillity of the Hawkesbury district. You can buy seasonal produce at farm gates and visit some farms and orchards such as Enniskillen Orchard and Canoelands Orchard, which offers Hive Honey Tours.
