Broken Hill

Broken Hill is the ‘Silver City’ and is Australia’s first Heritage Listed city with grand architecture from its times of high prominence. The name came from explorer Charles Sturt in 1844, seeking the "inland sea". BHP was founded here, with the largest and richest silver lead zinc deposits in thw world. Broken Hill had a stock exchange, and was an industrial powerhouse in its early days. Now it is leading the way in the renewable energy industry with one of the largest solar plants in the Southern Hemisphere. The community is welcoming with an active social and cultural environment that caters to all walks of life.
