In 1855, the railway's arrival sparked Granville's birth, first with timber and fruit. By the 1870s, it drew gentlemen seeking quiet villas. John Nobbs, a leading figure, helped shape the growing town. Initially called Parramatta Junction, the place gained its own post office in 1878, housed within the station master's home. In 1880, they renamed it Granville, honouring Lord Granville.
To mark Sydney's centenary in 1888, Granville decided on a proper Town Hall. Architect Charles Harding designed it, and Banks and Whitehurst built it. Mayor Nobbs laid the foundation stone, marvelling at Granville's rapid growth from a handful of houses to a bustling town with hundreds of buildings and thriving industries like Hudson Brothers and Brunton's Flour Mills.
The Town Hall opened in 1889.
