Hazelhurst Arts Centre is delighted to present The tip of the tongue, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Sydney-born artist Milli Jannides.

These ambient oil paintings capture felt sensations, recollections and locales drawn from the artist's idiosyncratic practice of imagining, reading and note-taking. Lost keys, frayed curtains, snails, squares and scissors slide across the canvas. Hues ranging from the pallid to the vivid and acidulated are deftly brushed and stained to realise absorbing tableaus that leave viewers on the edge of a thought or a memory.

Atmospheres surface, discovered through the dance of painting; the nimble shiftiness of colour, scale and mark. The canvas receives what is to hand, exasperation or inspiration: a drawing, an object, an idea.

A feeling of unease grows as what is reached for remains on the tip of the tongue.
