Curlew Homecoming

Celebrate the magnificent Far Eastern Curlew, the world's largest migratory shorebird, after their return home to Port Hacking from their extraordinary 11,000-kilometre journey from above the Arctic Circle.
This free community event brings together bird lovers, families, conservationists and the local community with activities at the Bundeena Community Centre and Bonnie Vale shoreline in Royal National Park.
Visitors can join expert-led bird walks along the Port Hacking shoreline and learn about the many shorebirds that visit and live on the coast. There will also be hands-on activities for children, including examining real bird wings, bones and feathers, making curlew puppets and playing the Great Knot Journey board game.
An expert panel discussion on shorebirds, their habitat and their protection followed by a cultural walk led by an Indigenous elder across the tidal flats of Deeban Spit at low tide. Free lunch and refreshments available to those who pre-register on the website.
