Bravura

Sunday 22 September 2019

Overview

One of Australia’s most highly-awarded young pianists Tony Lee, will join Grammy-nominated Chief Conductor and Artistic Director Dr Nicholas Milton AM and the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra to present a concert including Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No.2.

Arguably one of the most extraordinary piano concertos of the repertoire, this work is sure to astonish with its profound poetry and thrilling virtuosity.

Bringing his own bravura to the stage, Sydney born pianist Mr Lee has gained a reputation as one of Australia’s finest young pianists. At 28 years of age, Tony has performed across the Asia Pacific, Europe and the USA and appeared as a soloist with the likes of BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

Dr Nicholas AM will also lead the orchestra through Zoltán Kodály’s energetic Dance of Galanta, a work that pulsates with Hungarian dance melodies and intoxicating rhythms. The concert concludes with Brahms’ fourth symphony - his final work in the symphonic genre - an immortal masterpiece juxtaposing stunning beauty and incredible complexities within a pristine symphonic architecture.

Dr Milton’s interpretations of the major romantic orchestral works are a consistent highlight of Willoughby Symphony programs and this concert will be no exception.
