Darlinghurst is a hip inner-city suburb just east of Hyde Park, bordered by Surry Hills, Kings Cross and Woolloomooloo. It’s known for its plethora of excellent small bars (many of them hidden, speakeasy-style), a buzzing cafe and specialty coffee scene, a string of cutting-edge independent galleries and excellent restaurants, all of which makes Darlinghurst an excellent neighbourhood to explore and to stay in. It’s also easy to get around on foot or via public transport to many of Sydney’s best known sites.

Unsurprisingly, Darlinghurst has a variety of Sydney events to keep you entertained. It’s home to the Darlinghurst Theatre Company, housed in the Eternity Playhouse, which produces unique Australian productions which inspire reflection and dialogue about the world, and the National Art School, which hosts its fabulous Graduate Exhibition each December. It’s also the heartland of the famed Sydney Mardi Gras Parade, an epic colourful celebration of LGBTQI pride which runs along Oxford Street in February.
