The Easter Long Weekend in Sydney
The four-day Easter long weekend is a wonderful time in Sydney and all the iconic attractions, such as the Sydney Opera House and Taronga Zoo, are open. The annual Sydney Royal Easter Show is a fun family event, with amusement rides, delicious rural produce, farm animals and show bags.
There is even a petting zoo for the kids to meet friendly farmyard animals. The easiest way to get Australia’s biggest agricultural show from the city centre is by train to Sydney Olympic Park. Another fund event for the kids is the Great Centennial Park Egg Hunt on Saturday and Sunday in Moore Park.
The mild autumn is perfect for a family day at the one of Sydney’s gorgeous beaches, such as Bondi Beach or Manly Beach. Enjoy exhilarating walks along the spectacular coast and explore magnificent national parks. The Royal Botanic Garden, next to the Sydney Opera House, is lovely for a picnic.
A cruise on Sydney Harbour is another delightful way to relax and soak up memorable sights. The Easter Sunday Lunch Cruise is a delicious experience on one of the great natural harbours in the world. You’ll find many more delectable experiences in Sydney, from gourmet dining to sky bars.
On Easter Monday the Sydney Easter Parade begins at 11.30am. Christian groups, ministries, and churches from various denominations meet in the city centre for this traditional Easter Parade, a vibrant ceremonial march through the city that has been going on for more than 20 years.
Public museums and galleries are open, too. Stroll through the splendid Art Gallery of NSW, explore the eclectic works of the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, which is only closed on Good Friday, and take the kids on a tall ship and submarine at the Australian National Maritime Museum.
