Known as Sydney’s ‘Little Italy’, Leichhardt is located in Sydney’s inner west, just off Parramatta Road and to the west of Glebe. Norton Street runs through the centre of the neighbourhood and is lined with fantastic shops, cafes and restaurants. Many Leichhardt residents have Italian heritage –– an influence which is reflected in the suburb’s many businesses and events. Perhaps the biggest event on the local calendar is the Norton Street Italian Festa. Held during October, Norton Street is closed to traffic and transforms into a vibrant local marketplace featuring food stalls, cooking demonstrations, live entertainment and family-friendly activities.
Leichhardt is just one of the city's neighbourhoods where you can experience unique Sydney events. Nearby Haberfield, Balmain and Glebe offer some fantastic events and markets that are well worth checking out; don’t miss the Glebe Markets, Balmain Markets and Rozelle Markets, some of the best in Sydney. The Glebe Street Fair is also a local favourite, with stalls winding along Glebe Point Road for an entire Saturday in November.
