Manly Beach

This buzzing surf haven with consistent breaks has something for everyone, from cruisy beginner waves at the south end to punchy peaks further north (depending on the conditions of the day). Add in the easy ferry access from the city, postcard-worthy shoreline, and post-surf smoothies on the Manly Corso and it’s no wonder surfers flock to Manly Beach year-round.

Bondi Beach

Bondi isn’t just Australia’s most iconic beach – it’s also a reliable surf spot with something for everyone. There’s always a buzz around this spectacular stretch of sand, sea and surf, where you're just as likely to catch a wave next to a world champ or a backpacker on their first board, all while becoming part of Sydney surf folklore.

North Narrabeen Beach

Narrabeen Beach, or “Narra”, is a sacred name in Australian surf culture. A breeding ground for surf champions, it delivers consistently high-quality waves, especially when the norheast wind roars. This is a beach for the serious surfer, one that draws in both locals and travelling wave-chasers alike and has even hosted World Surfing League Pro events.

Bilgola Beach

A quiet achiever tucked between headlands, this Northern Beaches gem flies under the radar, making it a favourite among locals and seasoned surfers looking to escape the crowds and take on the occasional barrels when the swell hits just right. Bilgola is a beach that rewards patience and timing. The scenic setting, bordered by bush-covered cliffs and a sleepy vibe makes it perfect for surfers who prefer soulful sessions to the spotlight.

Long Reef Beach

With multiple breaks along the reef and beach, Long Reef is a playground for adventurous boarders. It's also one of Sydney’s most versatile surfing spots and a great place to paddle out with a bit of elbow room. The wide, open spaces and varied peaks make this a popular spot for learners, longboarders and anyone keen to dodge the weekend crowds.

Freshwater Beach

Known as “Freshie” to locals, this beach is considered the birthplace of Aussie surfing, commemorated by a statue of Hawaiian surfing pioneer Duke Kahanamoku, who hit these waves with his longboard in 1914. Framed by cliffs, the waves in this compact bay hold shape beautifully, especially with a northeast swell. It’s an ideal spot for smooth longboarding sessions or paddling out as a learner when the swell is calm. Here, history meets modern surf culture.

Maroubra Beach

The gritty, no-frills powerhouse of Sydney surf beaches, Maroubra (aka the 'Bra) might have a little less glitz than its northern counterparts, but packs a punch with strong, hollow waves that draw serious surfers year-round and has spawned its own tight-knit surf community.

Avalon Beach

Combining small-town charm with serious surf appeal, Avalon has long been a creative hub, inviting artsy locals, film crews, and board-riders to share the blend of bohemian charm and quality waves. The southern end’s reef break is a reliable right-hander, while the beach break offers more mellow options, so whatever kind of ride you're after, you'll find it here.

Bronte Beach

Small but mighty, Bronte delivers powerful waves that often break close to shore, creating fast and challenging rides. It’s not a beginner beach, but is beloved by locals who know how to handle its punchy conditions. With its rocky edges and dramatic backdrop, Bronte has a wild beauty that mirrors its waves and makes every successful take-off here feel like a big win.

Palm Beach

Palm Beach is a versatile spot where conditions vary from mellow to mighty, offering a mix of reliable beach breaks including plenty of adventures for big-wave hunters. Surfing here feels like a getaway: with lush headlands, golden sands, and a touch of Home and Away glamour, Palmy is where weekend warriors and local legends alike paddle out for a dose of surf and serenity.

Cronulla Beach

With multiple breaks stretching across its long coastline, Cronulla Beach is a goldmine for surfers of every skill level. What makes Cronulla truly special is its proud surf community: here you’ll find old-school bodyboarders, surf school kids and pros – locals and visitors alike – all sharing the same water, united by their love of the ocean.
