Love Every Second of Sydney in Winter

Winter is still a great time to enjoy Sydney’s relaxed beach lifestyle. Some of Sydney’s best beaches are just 10 km from the city centre so why not make the most of the proximity?

With so many beaches and bays close to Sydney’s city centre, it’s no wonder that Sydneysiders enjoy a wide variety of water sports focused on the beach. You’ll find many starting the day with a run along a beach, taking a leisurely walk, going surfing year-round or enjoying a coffee at a beachside cafe.

Enjoy some of the world’s most famous beaches, such as Bondi  and Manly, with their unique combination of surfing, shopping and beachside dining. Or find your own patch of sandy paradise, from Tamarama to Coogee, Dee Why to Palm Beach.

There are many secret beaches dotted around Sydney Harbour and along the eastern coastline such as Jibbon Beach in the Royal National Park where you'll enjoy the space, shade and the sounds of the sea.

If you prefer to add some action to your time by the beach, why not learn to surf or scuba dive – or take advantage of all the activities available on one of the most beautiful harbours in the world. Go sailing, take a Sydney Harbour cruise, take up kayaking or paddle boarding, or enjoy the thrill of a high-speed jet boat.

Sydney’s secret beaches

These quiet secluded beaches are unknown even by many Sydneysiders, making them perfect places to get away from city life for a break. The inner harbour has some beautiful beaches such as Milk Beach in Vaucluse, family-friendly Sirius Cove in Mosman and nearby Balmoral Beach.

Outdoor pools

Sydney’s many saltwater pools are the perfect alternative to the surf – great for lap swimmers, toddlers or just floating around. Some, such as Andrew Boy Charlton, are a short walk from Sydney city centre while others are an easy ferry-ride away.

Water sports

Make the most of Sydney Harbour and the beautiful beaches strung along the coastline, many just a short trip from the city centre.  Why not take up a new water sport such as paddle boarding on the harbour, kayaking between bays or snorkeling from the shore or in the harbour itself? Find out more about things to do in Sydney.

Best of Sydney beach lifestyle

With 350 km of coastline and a temperate climate, it’s no surprise that beach culture in Sydney is a well developed passion that’s shared with visitors. Beaches, bays and great surf are not far from the city centre; many Sydneysiders start the day with a run along a beach or coastal walk.

Sydney’s iconic beaches – Manly and Bondi – are some of the most celebrated beaches in the world, with their own unique style in surfing, shopping and dining. But there are plenty of other Sydney beaches to uncover from Tamarama to Coogee, Dee Why to Palm Beach.

If you enjoy water sports, you can play on one of the most beautiful harbours in the world.  Go sailing, take a Sydney Harbour Cruise, kayak or strap yourself into a high speed jet boat. Learn to surf, scuba dive, sail a catamaran or discover how to drive a maxi yacht.
