Horse Riding in Sydney for everyone
If you've never been on a horse before, don't worry. All horseriding centres in Sydney have well-trained horses and ponies for beginner riders. Take a guided trail ride at the Sydney Trail Riding Centre just 40 minutes out of the CBD, or learn the basics as you ride around the beautiful Centennial Parklands with an experienced guide from one of the five stables at the Centennial Park Equestrian Centre.
Papillon Riding Stables provides lessons in horse care and harmonious horse-rider communication, while fine-tuning horsemanship skills in dressage and showjumping is available at Moore Park Stables.
Children who love horses will find much to delight in in Sydney. For the under-fives, led pony rides are available at most equestrian centres. Older kids, whether beginners or more experienced, can have a lesson, trail ride and even a birthday party at Sydney's Centennial Park Equestrian Centre or within an hour of Sydney at a family-friendly venue such as Valley View Park at Grose Vale. Pony camps are available during school holidays, or enjoy a family day out at the Golden Ridge Animal Farm, where kids can have a pony ride, feed lambs and goats, and even milk a cow.
If you'd like to see Australian horses at work, a visit to Tobruk Sheep Station is a must. Watch stockmen muster sheep on horseback with their sheepdogs, enjoy some billy tea and damper around a camp fire or why not try your hand at sheepshearing? It's a true-blue Aussie farm experience.
You needn't travel far from Sydney's CBD to take a trail ride through some spectacular scenery, and summer is the perfect time to do it. Go for a guided horseride at Sugarloaf Horse Centre or Glenworth Valley, or saddle up at the Sydney Trail Riding Centre.
