Along the Hawkesbury River
Explore the beautiful Hawkesbury River with Australia's Last River Boat Postman, or sample fresh oysters at a casual riverside cafe. Start your Hawkesbury adventure with a seaplane flight from Sydney to a local restaurant by the river.
About the Hawkesbury
If you’re looking for a riverside holiday or rural escape close to Sydney, the area surrounding the Hawkesbury River is just about perfect. Stretching from Windsor to Brooklyn, the Hawkesbury and Hills area offers plenty of good dining and accommodation options amidst stunning natural attractions just waiting to be explored.
Surrounded by steep, forested slopes, the serene Hawkesbury River takes you into a world full of adventures. There’s no better way to explore and enjoy the river than on a relaxing houseboat, anchoring overnight at a peaceful spot. Other activities to be found along the river include kayaking, fishing and water skiing. You’ll also find bushwalking, picnic spots and even canoeing and mountain bike trails in the region’s national parks and reserves.
The Hawkesbury and Hills region is one of the earliest colonial settlements in Australia. With many original buildings surviving from that era, you can easily uncover a time capsule of Australian colonial history in small villages from Kurrajong and Richmond, to Windsor, Wisemans Ferry and St Albans. Modern shopping centres are at Hornsby and Castle Hill, while Berowra Waters and Brooklyn are located on the river as it heads towards the ocean at Broken Bay.
