Explore Sydney’s beaches as well as beaches outside of the city. Further afield it’s worth hitting the beaches in Wollongong and Newcastle (both accessible by train), or hit the NSW North Coast and venture to Byron Bay, where you can learn to surf. Stop in at Port Stephens along the way, where you can go parasailing over the sea or quad biking on the Stockton Sand Dunes.
Other great adventures around NSW include jet boating on Sydney Harbour, skiing in the Snowy Mountains, and abseiling and canyoning in the Blue Mountains. NSW is also blessed with stunning national parks and reserves, from the spectacular Sydney Harbour National Park to the monumental canyons and cliffs of the heritage-listed Blue Mountains.
Food-wise, there’s plenty to love. Sydney boasts an exciting, varied and ever-changing dining and bar scene, and greater NSW offers a vast choice of local food and drink. Some of the oldest pubs, best cafes, and most inventive food in Australia can be found in NSW. What’s more, eating out in NSW’s major towns is great value.
