Manly Lagoon to North Head Walk

North Head, Sydney Harbour

Featuring beaches, cliffs, magnificent headlands and historic sites, this urban coastal loop is one of Sydney's most spectacular walking tracks.

Begin at the northern Queenscliff end of Manly Beach by Manly Lagoon, walk past the sweeping sand of the beach towards the beautiful inlet of Shelly Beach. From here the walk will take you into the bushland of Sydney Harbour National Park as you wind a gentle ascent onto North Head.

The Fairfax Walk at North Head offers spectacular views over Sydney Harbour Heads.  This paved track starts at the end of North Head Scenic Drive and then loops around the top of North Head, passing the historic Q Station. There are three lookouts here which provide idyllic views of Sydney's waterways and cityscape. It is also a popular whale-watching location during the June - July and August - October migration seasons.

After completing the Fairfax walk, you can continue on through North Head Sanctuary. From here you can make your way back down to Manly and join the Manly Scenic Walkway, or take the Bluefish track back to Shelley Beach.

Allow two hours to get from Manly Lagoon to North Head Scenic Drive. Public transport is readily available at regular intervals along the way, including the Manly Ferry which takes you back to the city centre.
