Events: Sporting Events

Sydney is home to some of the biggest international sporting events and some of Australia's best domestic sporting competitions, Sydney has sporting events for those who just want to cheer from the stands as well as for those that want to dig in and join the performers. While visiting Sydney during the warmer months, take some time to enjoy the best of Sydney and the sports on offer.

From cricket to golf, and every sport in between, Sydney hosts a number of professional sporting events and competitions during the spring and summer. Experience a cross-town cricket rivalry as two Sydney based teams go head to head in the Australian domestic cricket competition, or cheer on the world's best motorcycle drivers and motorsport drivers at Eastern Creek. Don't forget to cheer on Australia's best tennis players as they take on the world in early January.

With its world-famous natural harbour, it is only natural for Sydney to play host to a number of water-based competitions. With annual yacht racing events, other ocean races, and waterski championships, Sydney's waterside suburbs to the north and along the river play host to awesome summer sport festivities.

Sydney's beaches explode with activity during summer, with residents diving in the water at every available opportunity. With surfing events, beach volleyball championships and ocean swims all on the agenda, it'll be hard not to get caught up in the sense of competition!

Sydney is an active city, with its residents known for their high-energy pursuit of fitness. During the warmer months, Sydney plays host to a number of local "fun runs" and other friendly competitions. There are sporting events that celebrate holidays (with men and women in red padded suits), as well as the tremendous diversity of Sydney, with events for the differently-abled and streetside events for local communities.
