Balmoral Beach

There are plenty of water sports that the whole family can enjoy at Balmoral Beach, near Mosman. Go snorkelling in the sheltered waters around Balmoral Beach, sailing or join a scuba dive course at Chowder Bay where you may be lucky enough to see the tiny sea horses that inhabit this part of Sydney Harbour.

Balmoral Beach

With gentle currents and enclosed swimming areas, Balmoral Beach is a beautiful harbour beach surrounded by parklands that make it popular with families. There are plenty of things to do at Balmoral, for all ages. Go exploring along the quaint footbridge from the beach to Rocky Point or wander along the foreshore to enjoy panoramic views of North and South Headlands. Balmoral Beach is also a great place for dining. Sample fine contemporary fare at waterside restaurants and alfresco cafes in the Mosman area or fresh fish and chips to take away and enjoy at the beach.

Learn to sail at Balmoral Sailing School or hire a kayak for an enjoyable afternoon on the sheltered waters. Hunters Bay is a great place to go wind surfing because it’s protected from stronger ocean currents by the cliffs that surround the area.

Follow the easy walking trail from Balmoral Beach to Chowder Bay and learn about Sydney’s military heritage while enjoying magnificent views of the headlands and Sydney Harbour. The former Chowder Bay naval base now hosts the only scuba diving school on Sydney Harbour and is a great place to learn how to scuba dive.

Nearby Little Sirius Cove is one of Sydney’s best kept secret locations with several sheltered beaches, a playground and a netted tidal pool. From Balmoral Beach, the cove can be reached on foot via the walk to Taronga Zoo. It's well worth the effort to uncover a beautiful part of Sydney Harbour and foreshore.
