Make A Play! 5 Day Workshop: Years 4-6
Overview
Their beloved Make A Play Workshop is a five-day creative theatre experience where students collaborate with fellow young performers and an industry Teaching Artist to devise and rehearse an original play, culminating in a live performance for friends and family on the final day.
Throughout the week, participants develop a wide range of foundational and advanced performance skills in a supportive ensemble environment. They explore acting techniques such as listening, reacting, and responding truthfully within imagined circumstances, while also learning how to create original characters through voice, movement, and backstory development. Storytelling is at the heart of the process, with students guided in shaping narrative structure, understanding story arcs, and contributing creatively to a shared piece of theatre.
The workshop also focuses on stagecraft, including spatial awareness, presence, and confidence in performance space. Strong emphasis is placed on collaboration and teamwork, encouraging students to build ensemble skills and support one another throughout the creative process. Vocal work is integrated through exercises in projection, diction, and clarity, alongside movement exploration to develop expressive physicality and stage presence. By the end of the week, students gain confidence performing in front of an audience within a fun, safe, and encouraging environment.
