Whether you’re just browsing for inspiration, looking for a fabulous new dress or the best of vintage, you’ll find shopping streets and markets in Sydney have miles of style to tempt you.

Oxford Street, running from Darlinghurst to Paddington, is a great place to start. High street chains mingle with Australian designer flagship stores and a diverse mix of boutiques. Head down side streets including Glenmore Road, William and Elizabeth to find quirky one-off boutiques and stylish designer ware. The Intersection is a who's who of designers whose wares are featured in this "anti-mall" cluster of shops with a village vibe.

Nearby Queen Street in Woollahra has a chic mix of fashion and homewares. Robert Burton, John Cavill and Orson & Blake are well worth a visit. Crown Street in Surry Hills is design-central – browse the vintage racks at Cream on Crown or Grandma Takes a Trip, or pop into Musu Bags and Regina Garde for stylish fashion. Check out emerging Australian labels at Paris Texas.

If you’re looking for beach fashion, head to Bondi's Hall Street and Campbell Parade, also known as beachwear central. Check out top swimwear shops, including Labyrinth, Mambo and The Big Swim which stocks brands such as local heroes, Hotel Bondi Swim, Zimmerman and Anna and Boy. Bikini Island on Campbell Parade has been an institution since 1981.

If you only have time for one Sydney shopping street, make it Oxford Street. Stretching from Hyde Park through Paddington and on to Centennial Park and Woollhara, the Oxford Street retail strip is where you’ll find some of Australia’s best designers and fashion boutiques, as well as jewellery, homewares, gifts, books and music. Don't miss side streets, William Street and Glenmore Road, for more great fashion.

Vintage style on King

Buzzing Newtown is an inner-city hub for students and hipsters, with hip bars, ethnic restaurants and quirky boutique shopping. Vintage fashion, books, and homewares jostle with unconventional second-hand stores, bead shops and tribal or gothic gift shops.

Darling Street shopping

Catch the Thames Street ferry from Circular Quay and wander along Darling Street from Balmain to Rozelle. This laid-back, inner-city neighbourhood has weekend markets, bookshops and an eclectic mix of fashion boutiques stocked with the best of local and imported brands.

Shopping on The Corso

Manly's Corso is where you'll find the best names in surf and beachwear. Check out Mambo, Heritage Surf, Billabong, Rip Curl, Surfection and Quiksilver or find something special at the weekend Manly Arts and Crafts Market or at one-off boutiques on side streets nearby.

The Shopping Streets of Sydney

If it's haute couture that sets your sprits souring, or something short and flirty for indoor cocktails and the club, Sydney shopping streets have it all. Unless you know where to look, the best fashion finds can pass you by so it pays to know just where to start.

Oxford Street and Paddington offers smart street-wear, designer jewellery and a host of boutique stores to warrant a shopping spree. Stunning small stores start to pave the way at roughly 50 Oxford Street. As well as high street brands like French Connection and Sportsgirl, you'll find an impressive array of international and Australian designer and boutique stores, such as Museum, which is popular for its modern and unique women's dresses. The Paddington Markets are also a great place to look for up and coming designers.

Crown Street in Surry Hills is cool-central, home to great eating spots, homeware shops and vintage clothing. For a fun afternoon, try on the secondhand clothing in stores such as Cream on Crown and Grandma Takes a Trip, or, if you're after something a little more modern, head to Mushu Bags and Regina Garde for stylish clothes and accessories.

Queen Street in Woollahra is right in the heart of Sydney's Eastern Suburbs, Woollahra and hosts a unique collection of fashion boutiques and antique stores. The John Cavill boutique on Queen Street carries an exclusive selection of European labels such as Dept from Amsterdam, Save The Queen from Italy, and more. Also on Queen Street head to Quincy or Axel Mano for shoes and bags, and Basquesse for clothing featuring luxurious boutique-mill fabrics from Europe.

Explore the city centre for stylish department stores, specialty boutiques and historic arcades. Castlereagh Street is the place to head for luxury labels and sometimes, walking through stores on Pitt Street and George Street will deposit you in a hidden world you won't see from the street. Myers and David Jones are two department stores housing select local and international products from Australia and beyond. If you're in need of a break from shopping and after a bite to eat, David Jones has an expansive food court in the basement.

Bondi is beachwear central, and the spot for the latest surf brands and styles. Hall Street is the place to hit for upcoming summer beachwear and boutiques, and for cool and winter casual style. For kooky and fun gifts head to Abode Homewares & Gifts and for the funkiest shoes in town, Platypus Shoes is on Campbell Parade. If it's swimwear you're after, Bikini Island on Campbell Island is the place to find the perfect piece to suit your figure.
