Located to the west of the city, Parramatta also known as Parra, is Sydney’s second CBD (Central Business District) and boasts a wide range of venues, many sites of historical significance and a multitude of restaurants with food from all over the world.
Parramatta is home to many great sporting teams and Parramatta stadium is a great place to catch a rugby league or soccer game, and Parramatta Park plays host to a variety of outdoor events year round.
Head to Parramatta for some of Sydney’s most vibrant festivals. The Sydney Festival takes place in both the city and Parramatta, with free activities and events throughout the laneways of Parra. There are some great cultural, film and of course, food festivals to check out year round, as well as outdoor festivals and events in Parramatta Park. The Riverside Theatre has a great program of theatre, music and comedy, and you can see fierce sporting contests taking place at the Parramatta Stadium. While in the area, don’t miss Elizabeth House; it’s the oldest surviving European building in Australia.
