From 27 May to 18 June Vivid Music will host a lively and eclectic range of live performances and ground-breaking musical collaborations, from local to international acts. Around the city, including the spectacular harbourside precinct that’s home to the majestic Sydney Opera House, you’ll find venues – large and small - celebrating musical creativity during this winter festival of light, music and ideas.
A World of Creative Sounds
Some of the world’s most creative musicians help transform Sydney into a winter wonderland for several weeks during this festival of light, music and ideas. Enjoy one-off music events and multi-genre shows as Sydney’s hippest clubs, labels and performance spaces ramp up the volume for Vivid Music.
To celebrate the opening of Björk Digital, Björk will travel to Sydney to curate a music event at Carriageworks, where she will DJ with special guests. The visitor is invited to explore Björk Digital, the premiere of the musician’s new virtual reality project that’s divided into five spaces and accompanied by collaborations and some of the finest filmmakers and programmers in the world.
An extraordinary line-up of musicians and artists will also feature at Curve Ball, a large-scale installation comprising live music and art across two stages at Carriageworks. Fuzzy is the team responsible for creating such legendary long-running music festivals as Field Day, Harbourlife and Parklife. In an exclusive for Vivid Music, they are partnering in 2016 for the first time to present Curve Ball.
In a groundbreaking new chapter at the Sydney Opera House, see one of music’s singular innovators, Anohni, the former singer of Antony & the Johnsons, stage her fifth album in a sense-shifting performance featuring anthemic song writing, room-shaking bass, dance and audiovisual effects. Experience one of New York's most singular voices as previewed in her new single '4 Degrees' at this Australian exclusive appearance.
Making her Australian debut a decade into her career, Grammy-winning jazz prodigy Experenza Spalding stages an ambitious performance that rekindles her childhood interest in theatre, poetry and movement. Spalding's latest performance Emily’s D+Evolution will be performing all new material at Vivid LIVE.
From their mythic rise out of Joy Division's tragic demise to becoming indie synth-pop legends, New Order celebrates 35 years with an Australian exclusive appearance at Vivid LIVE. Creating the blueprint for the likes of Radiohead and LCD Soundsystem, New Order returns in classic form with their critically acclaimed ‘Music Complete’.
Other smaller venues, such as The Argyle, The Basement and The Newtown Social Club, will also feature an array of musical genres from R+B to house, retro revivial, rock, electronica and hip hop.
