Chinatown & Haymarket Events

Chinatown is a vibrant precinct on the southern end of the Sydney CBD (Central Business District). Chinatown is serviced by light rail or is located within easy walking distance of Central Station. The area is a hotspot for authentic Asian food, with lots of incredible Cantonese, Thai, Laotian, Malaysian Japanese and Filipino options. It also boasts great shopping; check out Paddy’s Markets and Market City for a unique shopping experience.

Sydney events in Chinatown and Haymarket are in keeping with the neighbourhood’s marketplace vibe. Every Friday, the Chinatown Night Market takes over Dixon Street, turning it into a hawker-style market where you can feast on Southeast Asian treats. It’s also the home of Sydney’s Chinese New Year festivities, with free cultural events, markets, and dragon boat races taking place across the district. The Capitol Theatre is also located in Chinatown, and this is where you’ll see some of the best internationally-renowned musicals. If it’s coming to Sydney, the Capitol Theatre is likely where you’ll find it.
